Art Basel 2023 rekindles its brilliance, offering a sweeping panorama of artistic expressions from around the globe. Explore this cultural fest in full bloom!

The art world is once again coming alive, and at the heart of it all is the much-anticipated Art Basel in Basel 2023. It’s back and better than ever, resuming with renewed vigour after three years of uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Unfolding through June 18, this global art extravaganza showcases a broad spectrum of artistic creativity, including major works by established and emerging artists, colossal installations, cultural dialogues, films, and public projects.

In the words of Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz, Art Basel has always been the “unwavering foundation” of the global art scene, a sentiment echoed by the 284 galleries from 36 countries that have come together for this grand celebration of artistic expression.

The event presents an impressive array of artworks. From Joan Mitchell’s large lyrical abstraction on display at David Zwirner, to Georg Baselitz’s expressive depiction of a weary worker in his 1965 figurative canvas, visitors are treated to a visual feast of masterpieces.

Add to the mix intriguing newer artworks, such as Cindy Sherman’s 2023 Untitled #652 photograph at Hauser & Wirth and Bony Ramirez’s 2023 painted and collaged work, Strelitzia Nicolai, at Jeffrey Deitch. These pieces are just the tip of the iceberg in this vibrant pool of artistic talent.

Other notable exhibitions include a one-person show by Los Angeles artist Laura Owens at Sadie Coles HQ, a survey of Modernist works by Russian pioneer Sonia Delaunay at Galerie Zlotowski, and a showcase of the late Cuban artist Belkis Ayón’s large-scale black-and-white collographs at David Castillo.

In the words of Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz, Art Basel has always been the “unwavering foundation” of the global art scene, a sentiment echoed by the 284 galleries from 36 countries that have come together for this grand celebration of artistic expression.

Art Basel 2023 also provides a platform for emerging artists to shine. Baseera Khan, a queer femme artist of Indian-Afghani descent, made their first solo show outside of the United States at the fair. The exhibit “Surveillance of Desire,” presented by Simone Subal Gallery, features photographs in collaboration with Brooklyn Museum curators, blending past and present in a dialogue with Islamic objects.
