Disney+ is set to launch a live-action Star Wars series titled “Ahsoka” in August 2023, starring Rosario Dawson in the lead role of Ahsoka Tano.
The series, based on a character created by writer and executive producer Dave Filoni 15 years ago, is a fan-favorite and is expected to grow in popularity.
Jon Favreau and Kathleen Kennedy also serve as executive producers.
Ahsoka is a character created by George Lucas and Dave Filoni for the 2008 animated film “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and the subsequent animated series of the same name.
Ahsoka was trained as a Jedi but later broke away from the Order. She appeared in the animated series “Star Wars Rebels” and made her live-action debut in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian.”
Rosario Dawson, who plays the live-action Ahsoka, has praised Ashley Eckstein, the voice of the animated character, for her remarkable work in developing the character.
The series follows Ahsoka as she uncovers the threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn, a villain introduced in “Rebels.”
The story is a continuation of the events from “Star Wars Rebels.” Thrawn is described as a formidable adversary, and Ahsoka’s path will cross with characters from “Rebels” such as Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla.
The cast of “Ahsoka” includes both new and familiar characters, such as Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, Natasha Lee Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sahkno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn. Additionally, David Tennant will voice Huyang, a droid.
The series takes place around the same time as “The Mandalorian,” approximately five years after the events of “Return of the Jedi,” during the New Republic Era.
While watching the animated series “Clone Wars” and “Rebels” is not necessary before watching “Ahsoka,” doing so will provide viewers with a deeper understanding of the characters and their relationships.
The level of action in “Ahsoka” has been teased as next-level, with Rosario Dawson revealing that she trained intensively for months for the role.
Filoni’s participation as the series writer and executive producer is crucial for the show, with Dawson stating that it would be impossible to do the show without him and his encyclopedic knowledge.

Bringing the animated characters to life in a live-action series can be challenging due to fan pressure and expectations.
However, Jon Favreau noted that there is a balance between pleasing existing fans and inviting a new audience.
The team behind “Ahsoka” has made efforts to address concerns and improve aspects such as costume design, using 3D printing technology for Ahsoka’s headdress to provide greater flexibility and lightness.
The series will be available for streaming on Disney+ in August 2023. The number of episodes and their lengths have not yet been confirmed, but previous shows like “The Mandalorian” suggest that episodes may range from 26 to 52 minutes, with most around 35-40 minutes.
Disney+ is set to introduce a new live-action Star Wars series titled “Ahsoka,” featuring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, a character created by Dave Filoni 15 years ago.
The series will continue the story of Ahsoka Tano, a fan-favorite character that first appeared in the 2008 animated film “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and subsequent animated series.
Ahsoka was initially trained as a Jedi, serving as Anakin Skywalker’s padawan.
However, she eventually broke away from the Order. Ahsoka later appeared in the animated series “Star Wars Rebels,” and her live-action debut came in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian.”
The plot of “Ahsoka” revolves around the title character as she uncovers the threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn, a villain introduced in “Rebels.”
Dave Filoni has described Thrawn as a strategic mastermind, likening him to Sherlock Holmes’ adversary Moriarty.
“Ahsoka” builds on the animated corner of the Star Wars Universe created by Dave Filoni, bringing characters such as Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, and droid Chopper to life in their live-action debuts.
The series will attempt to balance the expectations of existing fans while inviting a new audience to engage with these characters.
